Role Overview

The Pharmacist, reporting to Director, Clinical Pharmacy Operations, is responsible for providing pharmacy claims and benefit and pharmacotherapy education to Accolade Health Assistants, nurses, and members.  The Pharmacist will have to be able to discuss medication issues with members using lay-person friendly language and, if necessary, discuss any issues raised with the treating provider.  They will also work with the Case Management and Disease Management nurses to provide medication reviews for members and assist in the medication reconciliation process. 

A Day in the Life

  • Discuss medication issues and resolve barriers to obtaining medications with members and discuss complex issues with the member’s providers. 
  • Provide SME support to the operations teams in response to day to day business issues for complex or escalated pharmacy inquiries.
  • Review all alerts related to drug issues and determine potential options to offer to the member.
  • Interface with providers, health plans, PBM’s and other business partners as necessary in the research and resolution of issues.
  • Provide drug information and education to internal staff and members.
  • Serve as contact person for interaction with PBMs when specific pharmacy and PBM knowledge is needed.
  • Assist in the facilitation of the transfer of data from PBM to Accolade.
  • Understand various PBMs’ claim adjudication logic and claim data definitions and act as an internal expert resource.
  • Coordinate with Accolade clinical team to perform member medication therapy assessments and follow up.
  • Participate in clinical case conferences to identify medication-related improvement opportunities.
  • Provide subject matter expert for pharmacy plan designs and benefits, including drug formulary coverage and updates.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal tools and resources to support Accolade Health Assistants with member pharmacy benefits and medication inquiries.
  • Coordinate Accolade’s drug therapy interventions with any similar PBM programs.

 

What we are looking for…

  • Licensed pharmacist with PharmD or BS Pharm.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in PBM or retail pharmacy setting.
  • Strong knowledge of health care industry business operations
  • Demonstrated drug information database research and evaluation experience
  • Demonstrated analytical experience.  Proficient in Excel; ability to manipulate data at the intermediate level
  • Demonstrated experience communicating complex pharmacy/prescription related information to patients/members in “plain English”
  • Ability to build consensus and to work through others in achieving desired results and objectives
